Course Lecturer – Introduction to Yiddish Literature

About the role
The Department of Jewish Studies at McGill University seeks a qualified lecturer to teach JWST 206 – Introduction to Yiddish Literature in the fall term of 2026. The course offers a survey of Yiddish literature from the 1860s to the present, emphasizing its cultural, religious, and historical contexts.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver two weekly in‑person lectures (Monday and Wednesday, 10:05‑11:25 am) in Trottier Building, room 2100.
- Prepare and update course materials, reading lists, and lecture notes.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and participation.
- Facilitate class discussions on the development of Yiddish literature, its minority status, and its response to historical events.
- Maintain academic standards in line with McGill’s collective agreement and equity policies.
Required profile
- Advanced academic degree (e.g., PhD) in literary analysis with a focus on Jewish Studies.
- Demonstrated experience teaching Yiddish literature in both the original language and translation.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work on the Montreal campus.
- Fluent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
