Course Lecturer – Introduction to Jewish Music

About the role
The Department of Jewish Studies at McGill University seeks a qualified Course Lecturer to teach JWST 202 – Introduction to Jewish Music in the Fall 2026 term. The position involves delivering in‑person lectures and guiding students through a survey of Jewish music from biblical times to the present.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver two weekly 75‑minute lectures (Tuesday and Thursday) in Education Building room 216.
- Develop course materials, reading lists, and assessment tools aligned with the syllabus.
- Facilitate class discussions on the cultural and historical contexts of Jewish music.
- Assess student performance through assignments, presentations, and examinations.
- Maintain office hours for student support and academic advising.
Required profile
- Advanced academic degree, preferably a PhD in Music or a closely related field.
- Extensive experience teaching Jewish music at the university level.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work on the McGill campus in Quebec.
Required skills
- Deep knowledge of Jewish musical traditions and their historical development.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
