About the role
The Department of Philosophy at McGill University seeks a Course Lecturer for the Fall 2026 term to teach PHIL 221-001, Introduction to History and Philosophy of Science 2. The position involves delivering three weekly lectures, guiding student discussions, and assessing learning outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver lectures on the development of modern science since the eighteenth century.
- Design and grade assignments, exams, and other assessments.
- Hold regular office hours to support student learning.
- Maintain course materials and update the syllabus as needed.
- Collaborate with department faculty on curriculum matters.
Required profile
- Completed PhD in Philosophy or enrollment in a doctoral program.
- Demonstrated high‑quality teaching experience, such as prior lecturing or teaching‑assistant roles in similar courses.
- Research specialization or proven competence in the history and philosophy of modern science (e.g., refereed publications, conference presentations, thesis work, or graduate‑level coursework).
Required skills
- Effective oral and written communication in English.
- Curriculum development and instructional design.
- Ability to assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.
