Course Lecturer for HIST 211 – American History to 1865

About the role

The Department of History and Classical Studies seeks a qualified instructor to teach HIST 211, American History to 1865, during the Fall 2026 term. The course covers colonial North America and the United States up to the Civil War, emphasizing Atlantic contexts. Teaching will be conducted in‑person at Leacock Building.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures for the scheduled Tuesday and Thursday sessions (1:05 pm – 2:25 pm).
• Prepare and organize course materials, readings, and assessments.
• Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and participation.
• Maintain a professional classroom environment and adhere to university policies.

Required profile

• PhD or ABD in U.S. history (required); expertise in colonial or pre‑Civil War era preferred.
• Prior university‑level teaching experience, especially in large survey courses, is preferred.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
