Course Lecturer for Early Modern Europe (HIST 214)

About the role

The Department of History and Classical Studies at McGill University seeks a qualified lecturer to teach HIST 214 – Early Modern Europe in the Fall 2026 term. The course covers European history from the Late Middle Ages to the eighteenth century and meets twice weekly on campus.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver in‑person lectures for HIST 214 on Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:35‑3:55 pm in Leacock 219.
• Prepare and present course materials, including syllabi, readings, and assessments.
• Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and participation.
• Maintain office hours and provide academic support to students.

Required profile

• PhD or ABD in Medieval or Early Modern European history.
• Prior teaching experience in medieval or early modern European history is preferred.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
• Fluent English communication, both spoken and written.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Early Modern European history.
• Effective classroom teaching and presentation abilities.
