Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Technician

About the role

The Total Group of Companies is seeking a Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Technician to join its fire‑safety team. You will inspect, clean and certify commercial kitchen exhaust systems in line with NFPA 96 and local fire‑code requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and clean kitchen hoods, filters, grease‑removal devices, ductwork, exhaust fans and related components.
• Operate pressure‑washing, scraping and degreasing equipment safely, and set up containment to protect kitchen equipment.
• Access rooftop exhaust fans using ladders and approved fall‑protection gear.
• Document work with before‑and‑after photos, service labels and cleaning reports.
• Identify inaccessible areas, damaged components or other deficiencies and report them.
• Maintain tools, PPE, cleaning equipment and company vehicles.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented, safety‑driven and reliable with flexible availability for nights, weekends and remote assignments.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lb, climbing ladders and working at heights.
• Comfortable working in hot, greasy environments and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Professional communication skills and organized documentation habits.

Required skills

• Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning certification (e.g., Phil Ackland, MFS Exhaust Hood Cleaning School).
• Knowledge of NFPA 96 requirements.
• Training in Fall Protection, WHMIS, Standard First Aid with CPR/AED.
• Valid respiratory mask fit test or ability to obtain one.
• Class 5 driver’s licence with clean abstract and three‑year driving experience.
