About the role

The University of Toronto is seeking a reliable Building Caretaker to maintain cleanliness and safety across its Mississauga facilities on a casual, part‑time basis. The role involves a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and minor machining tasks performed with minimal supervision.

Key responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors and stairs.
  • Empty trash cans and other waste containers.
  • Wash windows, interior walls and ceilings.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures.
  • Clear snow and ice from walkways and parking areas.
  • Perform basic machining to recondition or modify shafts, commutators or other parts.

Required profile

  • Dependable and reliable.
  • Flexible and able to work varied shifts (evening, night, day).
  • Initiative and good judgement.
  • Organised and capable of handling repetitive, physically demanding tasks.

Required skills

  • Operation of industrial vacuum cleaners and power sweepers.
  • Use of carpet cleaning machines.
  • Handling polishing machines.
  • Use of steam cleaners.
  • Operation of upholstery cleaning equipment.
