Building Caretaker – Facility Maintenance

About the role

The Building Caretaker will ensure that our apartment, condominium, office and retail facilities are clean, safe, and well‑maintained. Working primarily on‑site in Vancouver, you will perform routine cleaning, minor repairs, and supervise support staff while contributing to our green‑economy initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors, and stairs.
• Operate industrial vacuum cleaners, power sweepers, carpet cleaning and waxing machines, and steam cleaners.
• Empty trash cans and other waste containers.
• Make minor adjustments and repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems; contact tradespersons for larger issues.
• Perform minor repairs on appliances and supervise other workers.
• Clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures.
• Work with minimal supervision and handle overtime as needed.

Required profile

• Secondary school graduation or equivalent experience.
• 2–3 years of cleaning or facilities‑maintenance experience.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and handle physically demanding tasks.
• Capacity to lift up to 23 kg (50 lb) and use steel‑toed safety boots.
• Dependable, organized, flexible and able to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Operation of industrial vacuum cleaners and power sweepers.
• Use of carpet cleaning machines, waxing machines, steam cleaners and power tools.
• Minor HVAC, plumbing and electrical repair skills.
• Basic appliance repair.
