Assistant Tax Manager – Public Accounting Firm

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Tax Manager to join a mid‑sized, partner‑led public accounting firm in Edmonton. The role offers hands‑on experience with small and mid‑size private enterprises, focusing on tax planning, corporate reorganisations and advisory work while working closely with partners and senior tax leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review personal trust and corporate income tax returns, including year‑end tax planning.
• Lead and support corporate reorganisations for client portfolios.
• Conduct tax research, draft technical memoranda and propose practical solutions.
• Manage a portfolio of small and mid‑size private‑enterprise clients.
• Review tax working papers and compliance work prepared by junior staff.
• Assist with CRA audit support and respond to CRA queries.
• Participate in tax planning meetings with clients and partners.
• Contribute to internal tax training, mentor junior team members and support business development initiatives.

Required profile

• CPA designation (or in‑depth CPA tax program, Year 1 completed).
• 4+ years of public‑practice experience with a strong tax focus.
• Experience working with small and mid‑size private enterprises.
• Exposure to corporate reorganisations and a desire to deepen that expertise.
• Strong analytical, detail‑oriented mindset and commitment to high‑quality work.
