Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure) – Psychiatry, UBC

About the role

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a new endowed Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation Professorship in Mental Health. The appointment can be at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure‑track) or Associate Professor (tenure) and will be primarily based at the Mental Health and Substance Use Wellness Centre in New Westminster, BC.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an independent research program in mental health or addiction.
• Teach undergraduate, graduate and medical students, and supervise trainees.
• Provide clinical expertise and mentorship within the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program.
• Secure external funding and contribute to departmental service and governance.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the Faculty of Medicine and the broader health authority.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) with a strong record of scholarly achievement.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, teaching, and clinical practice.
• Experience in mental health, neuroscience, or substance‑use research is preferred.
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in academia.
