About the role
The Department of Biology at McGill University is seeking a part‑time Animal Care Assistant to support developmental genetics research. This work‑study position provides hands‑on experience with Drosophila stock maintenance in a university laboratory setting.
Key responsibilities
- Grow and maintain Drosophila strains used for research projects.
- Monitor animal health and ensure a clean, organized work environment.
- Follow a consistent schedule and adhere to lab safety protocols.
- Communicate regularly with lab members and report observations.
Required profile
- Enrolled student in the Faculty of Science.
- Organized, meticulous, and reliable.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Approved as a Work‑Study student.
Required skills
- Drosophila strain maintenance and handling.
What we offer
- Hourly wage of $16.20 CAD.
- 8 hours per week, fixed‑term contract from 12 Dec 2025 to 30 Apr 2026.
- Opportunity to gain practical laboratory experience in a research environment.
