About the role

Atlassian is hiring an AI Researcher (PhD) for its Machine Learning Research team in Canada, working on advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies such as large language models, generative AI, search, conversational agents and AI optimization. The role is preferred to be co-located in British Columbia and is remote; it is not eligible for employer sponsorship at the time of hire.

Key responsibilities

• Design system and model architectures.
• Conduct rigorous experimentation and model evaluations.
• Apply AI/ML to product problems to improve Atlassian products and contribute to Atlassian Intelligence features.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science or a relevant technical field.
• Full-time doctoral student in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field, graduating by August 2027.
• Ability to obtain work authorization in the country of employment at hire and maintain it during employment.
• Experience with research, publishing and building and scaling machine learning models on large datasets.

Required skills

• Strong foundation in AI/ML, LLMs, optimization and related techniques.
• Agile development mindset.
• Preferred: Python, NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Hugging Face, PyTorch, NLP, computer vision, reinforcement learning and AI optimization.
• Publications in top-tier AI conferences or journals are an asset.

What we offer

• Base pay for new hires in Canada of CA$136,800 to CA$178,600, with possible eligibility for benefits, bonuses, commissions and equity.
