Advocate – Indigenous Community Legal Clinic

About the role

The Indigenous Community Legal Clinic (ICLC) at the Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia, is seeking an Advocate to join its team. The Advocate will provide free legal assistance to Indigenous clients in British Columbia while supporting the clinic’s educational mission for law students.

Key responsibilities

• Manage client files, conduct legal research, and prepare court documents.
• Represent clients in court and administrative hearings.
• Collaborate with community partners, lawyers, and agencies to coordinate referrals for housing, income support, health, and cultural services.
• Explain the ICLC’s services to clients and the public.
• Support law students in gaining practical advocacy experience.

Required profile

• Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
• Understanding of Indigenous history, residential schools, relevant legislation, and legal issues (asset).
• Ability to work on‑site at the UBC campus.
• Strong communication and client‑service orientation.
