Advisor, Payroll Tax & Compliance

About the role

We are seeking an Advisor, Payroll Tax & Compliance to serve as the subject‑matter expert for Canadian payroll tax and statutory compliance. The role will ensure accurate filings, remittances, reconciliations and year‑end reporting while strengthening internal controls and supporting the payroll team’s capability.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and timely compliance with CRA, MRQ, CPP, EI, provincial income tax, Workers’ Compensation and other statutory requirements.
• Support and validate DAS submissions, remittances and related payroll tax activities.
• Produce and review compliance reports, including PIER reports, and resolve any discrepancies.
• Perform payroll tax account reconciliations and review GL‑to‑statutory balance statements.
• Investigate and resolve variances across payroll, finance and statutory filings.
• Strengthen internal controls related to payroll tax, statutory reporting and compliance risk mitigation.
• Assist with year‑end reporting such as T4, T4A and RL‑1 preparation, validation, amendments and corrections.
• Act as a technical resource and coach, documenting processes and improving accuracy and efficiency across the payroll team.

Required profile

• Strong experience in Canadian payroll tax, statutory compliance, remittances and year‑end reporting.
• Hands‑on experience with payroll tax reconciliations, variance analysis and discrepancy resolution.
• Solid understanding of CRA, MRQ, DAS, CPP, EI, Workers’ Compensation and provincial tax requirements.
• Detail‑oriented, analytical and comfortable interpreting legislation for payroll processes.
• Risk‑focused mindset with ability to support audits, inquiries and compliance reviews.
• Collaborative technical resource capable of coaching, documenting processes and driving efficiency.
