Adequate Housing Specialist (Consultant)

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) Canada Office is seeking an Adequate Housing Specialist on a six‑month consultancy basis. Based in Montreal, the consultant will support data‑management processes, produce evidence‑based inputs on urban and housing adequacy, and contribute to climate‑smart housing research.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and streamline data collection, cleaning, and analysis related to housing adequacy and climate‑smart solutions.
• Prepare evidence‑based briefs and reports for UN‑Habitat’s housing programme and the Open‑Ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Adequate Housing for All.
• Consolidate research outputs and knowledge products to strengthen the Canada Office’s policy and partnership initiatives.
• Support applied research, knowledge‑management activities, and the dissemination of best practices across North America and globally.
• Collaborate closely with the Head of Office, the Land, Housing and Shelter Section, and external partners.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with several years of experience in housing research, urban development, or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality analytical outputs.
• Strong understanding of sustainable, inclusive, and climate‑resilient housing policies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
