Accountant – Transportation Division

About the role

Brandt Corporate Services Ltd. is looking for an Accountant to join its Transportation division in Calgary. The role provides full‑cycle accounting support and analysis across Canadian branches, reporting to the Manager, Accounting.

Key responsibilities

• Create monthly branch and departmental financial statements.
• Reconcile general‑ledger accounts and prepare month‑end journal entries with supporting documentation.
• Perform daily and weekly bank reconciliations and balance transactions.
• Process intercompany transactions and conduct related reconciliations.
• Explain accounting reports to internal stakeholders and partner with operations to resolve issues.
• Analyse monthly financial results, identify trends and recommend improvements.
• Identify and explain budget variances to the Divisional Controller.
• Assist in the preparation and analysis of the annual budget.
• Implement and monitor internal controls, accounting procedures and policies.
• Prepare year‑end working papers for auditors and respond to queries.
• Provide peer reviews and support continuous process improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of internal controls and their design.
• Ability to partner with multiple internal departments and branches.
• Analytical mindset with focus on identifying financial trends and variances.
• Experience preparing financial statements, journal entries and audit documentation.
