Transfer Station Attendant

About the role

The Transfer Station Attendant works under the Senior Transfer Station Attendant to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient waste‑handling environment. This frontline position provides direct service to the public, manages waste‑cart inventory, and supports recycling and special‑waste programs at the Fort Saskatchewan Transfer & Eco Station.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and organize waste cart inventory, including assembly, delivery and repair.
• Direct traffic and customers, monitor station activity and enforce proper disposal procedures.
• Assess items for appropriate charges and handle cash transactions accurately.
• Coordinate and maintain garbage and recycling programs in line with ARMA regulations.
• Operate equipment such as compactors, fluorescent‑bulb crusher, and, when needed, heavy machinery (loader, backhoe, skid steer) to load materials.
• Provide clear information on recycling and waste disposal, and address public inquiries and complaints.
• Coordinate contracted collection services and ensure compliance with waste‑management standards.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 Diploma.
• Valid Class 5 Operator’s License.
• At least one year of related work experience.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Physically capable of performing demanding tasks and operating equipment.
• Strong organizational and customer‑service abilities.
