Relief Sous-Chef (Catering)

About the role

Wesley is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Relief Sous-Chef to support its First Start Catering and Food Services operations. Working under the Chef and Food Services Manager, you will help plan, prepare, and deliver high‑quality meals and catering events while upholding Wesley’s values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute diverse catering services and meals in collaboration with the Chef, kitchen staff, volunteers, and clients.
• Create recipes showcasing global flavours and adapt menus to customer needs, cost constraints, and presentation standards.
• Prepare catering and meal services independently and collaboratively, ensuring exceptional quality, timeliness, and cost‑effectiveness.
• Maintain smooth kitchen operations through recipe documentation, inventory management, deep cleaning, and training of others.
• Provide friendly in‑person service (buffet, plated) and support continuous improvement based on feedback.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and organizational development activities while adhering to food safety and equipment maintenance standards.

Required profile

• High school graduate or GED diploma required; post‑secondary culinary education is an asset.
• Minimum three years of cooking experience in a high‑volume kitchen or busy restaurant, with well‑rounded experience across workstations; catering experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of food‑industry best practices, standards, and legislation.
• Safe Food Handlers Certificate and First Aid/CPR certification.
• Ability to lift 50 lb and stand for long periods.
