Registered Practical Nurse – Inpatient Pediatric

About the role

We are seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our Inpatient Pediatric team on a temporary part‑time basis until approximately August 2027. The role is based at the WRHN Midtown campus (formerly Grand River Hospital) and focuses on delivering high‑quality, family‑centered care to children and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence‑based nursing care to pediatric patients, including newborns, stable surgical cases, and those requiring mental‑health or phototherapy support.
• Educate and support patients and families on care plans, feeding, and breastfeeding.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to maintain a respectful and productive work environment.
• Document care accurately using computer‑based systems.
• Administer intravenous medications and manage fluid therapy.
• Assist with care for neonatal abstinence syndrome and other predictable pediatric conditions.

Required profile

• Valid license with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• At least one year of recent experience working with pediatric patients, or recent graduate with a pediatric placement.
• Current BCLS HCP certification and a good attendance record.
• Commitment to patient‑ and family‑centered care.
• Clearance from Employee Health (COVID‑19 vaccination, TB test, immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella).
• Willingness to complete a 16‑hour in‑person breastfeeding course within six months of hire.

Required skills

• PALS provider status (or ability to obtain within six months).
• BCLS HCP certification.
• Intravenous medication administration.
• Fluid management.
• Computer‑based documentation.
• Breastfeeding education (16‑hour course).
• Competence in newborn and pediatric patient care.
