QC Technician – Construction Materials Inspection

About the role

The Quality Control Technician will ensure that construction materials such as aggregates, concrete, and asphalt meet project specifications. This role involves both field and laboratory testing, documentation, and coordination with clients and contractors to maintain high standards of workmanship.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect the quality of aggregates, concrete, and asphalt on site.
• Monitor material placement and workmanship compliance.
• Perform field and laboratory tests, including compaction testing with a Nuclear Densometer.
• Conduct asphalt coring to assess thickness and composition.
• Collect and prepare samples for analysis.
• Maintain accurate test data, daily checklists, and site activity logs.
• Report non‑conformances to management and participate in laboratory meetings.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and ensure testing equipment is calibrated and in good condition.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field (asset).
• Previous experience in construction material testing or a related industry (asset).
• Knowledge of OPSS, ASTM, and MTO LS testing procedures (asset).
• Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, and highly organized.
• Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and travel out of town when required.
• Valid driver’s license and flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Operation of a Nuclear Densometer for compaction testing.
• Asphalt coring techniques.
• Familiarity with OPSS testing procedures.
• Familiarity with ASTM testing procedures.
• Familiarity with MTO LS testing procedures.
