Pharmacy Assistant – Hospital

About the role

The Pharmacy Assistant will support the Drug Distribution Manager and pharmacists in delivering safe, efficient pharmacy services within the Health Sciences Centre. This fixed‑term position involves handling a wide range of pharmaceutical tasks in a hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Procure, store, and manage inventory of pharmaceuticals.
• Record, manufacture, compound, dispense, package, label, price, issue, and distribute medications according to departmental policies.
• Operate and support Automated Dispensing Cabinets and related distribution processes.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Assist with daily pharmacy operations during days, evenings, and weekends.

Required profile

• Complete Grade 12 education (Manitoba standards) and graduation from a recognized pharmacy assistant program.
• One year of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or Technician in a hospital setting (preferred).
• Pharmacy Technician Certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality.
• Physical ability to stand, lift, and perform repetitive motions.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Automated Dispensing Cabinet distribution processes.
• Familiarity with pharmacy computer systems and software.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Competency in pharmaceutical calculations.
• Fine motor hand dexterity.
