Non-Tenure Renewable Contract Instructor – Archival Studies

About the role

The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies seeks a full‑time, non‑tenure‑track renewable contract instructor to join its archival studies program beginning August 16, 2023. The position focuses on graduate education and supports both online and face‑to‑face delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Teach three graduate courses each semester, with at least two delivered synchronously online and the option to teach in‑person or during the summer.
• Cover core archival studies topics such as introduction to archival studies, archival theory and practice, appraisal, and representation.
• Develop new courses aligned with program needs and may teach in other areas of the LIS curriculum.
• Assist with the administration of the SLIS EBSCO Scholars Program and related outreach initiatives.
• Advise master’s‑level graduate students and participate in professional service within the college and broader professional associations.

Required profile

• Earned master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a cognate field from a regionally accredited university.
• Minimum three years of professional or teaching experience in archival theory and practice.
• Demonstrated ability to teach diverse student populations, including non‑traditional learners.
• Evidence of successful synchronous online instruction at the graduate level.

Required skills

• Proficiency in delivering synchronous online courses.
• Strong knowledge of archival theory, appraisal, and representation.
• Experience with community archives, preservation, special collections, or media collections is highly valued.
