Summer Counselor

About the role

The Summer Counselor works under the Program Director to create a supportive, engaging environment for students during the summer program. This role focuses on fostering intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth through literacy and math instruction aligned with Common Core standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver curriculum‑based literacy and mathematics lessons using Project‑Based Learning (PBL) and Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) approaches.
• Assess student progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
• Collaborate with the Program Director and other staff to ensure a cohesive, high‑quality summer experience.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and curiosity.

• Passion for working with children and supporting their holistic development.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented setting.
• Flexibility to adapt teaching methods to varied student abilities.

Required skills
