Mechanical Engineer‑in‑Training / Designer – Buildings HVAC

About the role

Join WSP’s Mechanical team in Markham to design sustainable building systems across Ontario. You will work on HVAC, plumbing, and related services, contributing to healthier, resilient spaces for communities.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical building systems, including HVAC, domestic water, sanitary, storm, and natural gas.
• Produce accurate AutoCAD drawings and Revit 3D models to support project delivery.
• Apply Ontario Building Code requirements and standards such as ASHRAE, ASPE, NFPA, and CSA.
• Perform mechanical calculations, assist in specifications, and develop design packages for approvals.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, designers, and cross‑disciplinary teams.
• Support project management tasks: track deliverables, coordinate design updates, and aid team planning.
• Utilize BIM360 workflows to ensure integrated and accurate documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–4 years of hands‑on design experience in building or infrastructure projects.
• Experience with mechanical building systems (HVAC, plumbing, natural gas).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit 3D.
• Comfortable working in digital engineering and BIM environments.
• Understanding of utility coordination, authority requirements, and relevant codes.
• Curiosity, accountability, and willingness to learn from senior staff.
• Engineer‑in‑Training registration with PEO is an asset.
