Maintenance Worker – Highway Operations (Labourer/Operator)

About the role

The Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure department is hiring full‑time Maintenance Workers to support highway operations across the Winnipeg East Region. New hires start as Labourers and can be promoted to Operator after completing training and proficiency testing.

Key responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance equipment and small hand/power tools.
• Perform physical maintenance tasks such as paved surface repairs, gravel road upkeep, debris pick‑up, sign repair and right‑of‑way maintenance.
• During winter, operate heavy equipment to clear snow and ice from highways.
• Assist with seasonal maintenance activities throughout spring, summer and fall.

Required profile

• Full‑time availability and willingness to work in various weather conditions.
• Ability to meet training, orientation and proficiency‑testing milestones for promotion.
• Commitment to the Manitoba government’s employment‑equity principles.
• Willingness to indicate preferred work location(s) in the application.

Required skills

• Highway maintenance equipment operation.
• Heavy equipment operation for snow and ice removal.
• Use of hand and power tools for road repair tasks.
