Lead Hand – Construction Field Lead

About the role

Hall Shoring and Foundations is seeking a dedicated Lead Hand to support the Foreman in daily field operations. This on‑site role combines hands‑on work with crew mentorship, ensuring safe and efficient execution of foundation piling and drilling projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Foreman with daily coordination of drilling, piling, pumping and rigging activities.
• Organise work areas, equipment, tools and materials to optimise workflow.
• Provide direction to operators and labourers, reinforcing safe and efficient task execution.
• Mentor workers on safe practices, equipment awareness and rigging fundamentals.
• Conduct daily hazard assessments, toolbox talks and pre‑task planning.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas, tools and equipment.
• Inspect equipment, tools and vehicles, reporting any deficiencies.
• Identify site hazards and implement appropriate controls.
• Monitor crew performance, offering feedback to improve quality and productivity.
• Coordinate movement of materials, hoses, rigging and equipment for drilling and piling.
• Assist with rigging and hoisting, including load securement and communication with crane operators.
• Stop any activity that poses an immediate risk and notify the Foreman.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of foundation piling, drilling, anchor installation and concrete placement processes.
• Ability to read and interpret pile layouts, drawings and basic engineered details.
• Understanding of ground stability, soil conditions and safe equipment positioning.
• Experience with rigging and hoisting practices, including sling selection and load signalling.
• Capability to identify hazards related to overhead and underground utilities.
• Familiarity with mobile equipment capabilities and limitations.
