Jumbo Operator – Underground Mining

About the role

The Jumbo Operator will set up and run single or multiple boom jumbos to drill and blast underground mine headings safely and efficiently. This position is based at the Borden project in Chapleau and follows a 7‑day on / 7‑day off rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Visually inspect and clean the work area, checking for misfires.
• Read and apply the ground support management plan and current heading ground support plan.
• Prepare faces before drilling rounds and follow survey memos, offsets, and grade markings.
• Interpret engineered drill profiles and execute drilling according to approved standards.
• Perform minor equipment repairs such as changing shanks, couplings, and hoses.
• Complete daily equipment checklists, pre‑starts, and submit written and verbal reports to the supervisor.
• Maintain a clean, orderly work environment and ensure safe equipment operation.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years experience operating a jumbo, plus at least 1 year each on a scoop, installing services, and loading/blasting rounds.
• Demonstrated ability to read mine plans, ground support plans, and survey documents.
• Understanding of Redpath’s health and safety standards, including the Five Point Safety System and Cardinal Rules.
• Knowledge of WHMIS legislation and ability to use MSDS sheets.
