General Assistant

About the role

The General Assistant supports the Cashier Department in delivering fast, accurate, and friendly service to supermarket customers. This entry‑level position involves checkout assistance, merchandise handling, and maintaining a clean shopping environment.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide courteous service.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper placement of shopping baskets and trolleys.
• Restock returned merchandise, process fresh and frozen goods, and minimize shortages.
• Pack customer purchases correctly, separating items by weight, temperature, and type.
• Perform fast and accurate checkout operations, including fraud prevention and counterfeit detection.
• Monitor and keep checkout stations clean and functional.
• Stay informed about product locations and in‑store promotions, assisting other departments as needed.

Required profile

• Flexible to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• Ability to stand for long periods and safely use work‑related tools.
• Basic knowledge of workplace safety, Canadian currency, and essential mathematics.
• Prior cash‑handling experience is preferred.
