Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious Financial Controller to lead our Finance Department. The successful candidate will own budget management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, and all core accounting functions across multiple entities.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate, timely consolidated financial statements, WIP schedules, job‑cost reporting and margin analysis.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction‑specific accounting standards, including percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition.
• Manage the full budget process, internal controls, and financial reporting to senior leadership.
• Oversee month‑end and year‑end close, bank reconciliations, and coordination with external auditors.
• Direct daily AP/AR operations, general ledger activity, and payroll processing (including T4s and taxable benefits).
• Maintain cash‑flow visibility, banking relationships, and regulatory reporting, including tax planning.
• Develop and monitor key performance indicators and support strategic planning.

Required profile

• Degree or certificate in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA) or working towards one.
• 5+ years in senior accounting or financial management, preferably in construction or project‑based environments.
• Proven experience with job costing, WIP, and progress billing.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.

Required skills

• Sage 300, Maestro, Bid2Win, or Acumatica.
• Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables).
• Knowledge of HST rules, payroll regulations, government remittances, GAAP, Employment Standards Act and Family Responsibility Office.
