Financial Controller

About the role

The company is a national food manufacturer seeking a Financial Controller to lead the plant accounting function. This senior role offers high visibility, direct interaction with executive leadership, and a pathway toward larger plant or multi‑site finance leadership positions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of four accountants, handling goal setting, training and performance management.
• Manage the month‑end close and produce financial reporting packages with detailed variance analysis and business commentary.
• Partner with Operations and Supply Chain on operational reporting, including yield, labour efficiency, SKU mix, operating costs, inventory metrics and project spend.
• Attend operational meetings to review performance, identify issues, recommend solutions and support cost‑saving initiatives.
• Drive process improvements across accounting to increase efficiency and focus on value‑added work.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital and cash movements to support effective financial management.
• Oversee balance‑sheet reconciliations, account analysis and timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Maintain internal controls, ensure regulatory compliance and deliver accurate daily, weekly and monthly reports.
• Act as primary contact for Treasury, intercompany divisions, external auditors and Statistics Canada reporting.
• Collaborate with other Controllers to align best practices and standardize finance processes.

Required profile

• CPA designation.
• 7‑10 years of progressive controllership experience with strong business partnering.
• 2‑3 years of leadership experience coaching and mentoring direct reports.
• Manufacturing sector experience, specifically plant finance, costing and inventory analysis.

What we offer

• Salary range $135,000 – $165,000 CAD per year (higher end reserved for Directors)
