Executive Director

About the role

The Status of Women Council of the Northwest Territories is seeking an Executive Director to lead the Council’s operations, advise the Board, and champion issues affecting women and families across the North.

Key responsibilities

• Implement Council decisions and provide strategic advice on administrative, personnel, financial, legal and procedural matters.
• Manage all human‑resource functions, including recruitment, performance evaluations, professional development and staff supervision.
• Oversee external communications: prepare press releases, coordinate public meetings, maintain the Council website and liaise with media.
• Build and sustain relationships with women’s groups, government bodies and other Status of Women Councils.
• Draft operational plans, budgets, annual reports, policies and procedures for Council approval.

Required profile

• Extensive managerial and supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of operational planning, financial and HR management processes.
• Familiarity with government and political processes.
• Deep understanding of social and economic issues affecting northern women and families.
• Excellent written, analytical, interpersonal and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Ability to work in cross‑cultural settings and under pressure.
