Director of Development – Education, Law & Music Faculties

About the role

The University Advancement team at McGill University seeks a senior development leader to drive fundraising across the Faculties of Education, Law, and the Schulich School of Music. Reporting to senior advancement leadership, the Director will shape and execute strategies that secure major gifts and deepen donor relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the assigned pool of prospects.
• Design and lead major‑gift campaigns targeting donations of $500,000 or more.
• Collaborate with Deans, faculty members and senior management to plan, coordinate and evaluate fundraising projects aligned with each faculty’s priorities.
• Foster multidisciplinary initiatives within and across faculty cohorts.
• Partner with other cohort leads on cross‑faculty fundraising efforts.
• Lead the creation and communication of each faculty’s case for support, ensuring consistency with university-wide messaging.

Required profile

• Proven experience in major‑gift fundraising within a higher‑education or nonprofit environment.
• Strong ability to build relationships with senior academic leaders and external donors.
• Strategic thinking and capacity to develop long‑term philanthropic plans.
• Excellent communication skills for crafting proposals, donor reports and case statements.
