About the role
Working under the direction of an immediate supervisor, the Dental Assistant supports staff and students in patient treatment and dental education. The role involves preparing instruments, ensuring infection‑control compliance, scheduling appointments, and maintaining equipment in a fast‑paced university dental clinic.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and set up dental instruments and materials for clinical and laboratory sessions.
- Maintain infection‑control standards and ensure equipment and supply availability.
- Schedule patient appointments and compile related reports.
- Perform laboratory tasks such as pouring and trimming models, working with extracted teeth, and taking radiographs.
- Assist with oral‑surgery simulations using animal parts and set up practical exams.
- Clean and organize the plaster room with student assistance.
- Guide students in practical requirements, including appliances, dentures, and custom trays.
- Take alginate impressions, pour impressions using various stone types, trim and mount models, and fabricate surgical guides, stents, and orthodontic appliances.
- Produce athletic mouth guards, bleaching trays, temporization materials, and wax‑up teeth.
Required profile
- Dental Assistant Certification (required).
- Knowledge of dental laboratory procedures (asset).
- High degree of manual dexterity and strong organizational skills.
- Fluency in English and French, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Capacity to stand for long periods, stretch, bend, and perform light lifting.
