Cybersecurity Intern

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Cybersecurity Intern to join our client’s security team. The position is fully remote and aligns with Canadian working hours, offering hands‑on experience in threat detection, vulnerability assessment and incident response.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse security alerts and incidents across systems and networks.
• Support vulnerability assessments and penetration‑testing activities.
• Identify, evaluate and help mitigate security risks and threats.
• Assist in implementing and maintaining security controls, policies and compliance measures.
• Analyse logs from servers, network devices and applications for suspicious activity.
• Participate in incident‑response processes and documentation.
• Research emerging cyber‑threats and trends.
• Support audit‑related security tasks.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Security or a related field.
• Basic understanding of network security concepts such as firewalls, VPNs and IDS/IPS.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.
• Knowledge of security fundamentals (CIA triad, authentication, encryption) and web‑security basics (OWASP Top 10).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work remotely and collaborate across time zones.

Required skills

• Experience or exposure to SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, Wireshark, Nessus).
• Basic scripting skills in Python, Bash or PowerShell.
• Understanding of cloud security concepts on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Familiarity with identity and access management (IAM) principles.
• Awareness of ethical‑hacking and penetration‑testing techniques.
