Civil Construction Technician – Calgary

About the role

Valard Construction is seeking a physically capable, team‑oriented Civil Construction Technician to join its crew in Calgary. Reporting to the Foreman, you will work on the Green Line LRT project, performing underground cable and conduit installation, operating construction equipment, and providing general site support in a fast‑paced urban environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support all civil infrastructure activities on the Green Line LRT project.
• Install underground cable and conduit, and perform swamp work for excavators.
• Operate company vehicles, mini excavators, backhoes, and horizontal/directional drills as required.
• Read and interpret construction drawings to complete tasks accurately and on schedule.
• Complete daily timesheets, force‑account records, pre‑trip vehicle inspections, and other required paperwork.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site through daily cleanup and adherence to safety policies.
• Participate in daily tailgate meetings and comply with PPE standards and Valard safety protocols.
• Collaborate with crew members, subcontractors, and site supervisors to meet project schedule and quality standards.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a team‑oriented construction environment.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a satisfactory abstract.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and perform physical labour outdoors for extended periods in varying weather.
• Flexibility to work varying hours and days as project schedules require.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings for assigned tasks.
