Backend Engineer – Core Tech

About the role

Stripe is looking for a Backend Engineer to join its Core Tech organization in Canada. You will contribute to the reliability, scalability and performance of the company’s foundational infrastructure that powers payments for millions of businesses worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test and ship production‑grade code for tier‑0 infrastructure services such as compute, networking, DocumentDB and distributed caching.
• Collaborate with teams across Core Infrastructure, Developer Infrastructure, Data Platform, Admin Platform, Support Experience and Service Platform to deliver high‑availability systems.
• Improve developer productivity by creating fast, reliable inner development loops for microservices, data pipelines and machine‑learning workloads.
• Maintain and evolve large‑scale data serving components using technologies like Trino/Presto, Apache Pinot, Hive Metastore and ElasticSearch.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with experience building large‑scale, high‑performance backend services.
• Ability to work across multiple domains and deliver reliable, efficient solutions.

Required skills

• Experience with cloud compute, networking and storage services.
• Knowledge of DocumentDB, distributed caching systems.
• Familiarity with low‑latency microservices, large‑scale data pipelines and machine‑learning model serving.
• Hands‑on experience with Trino/Presto, Apache Pinot, Hive Metastore, ElasticSearch.
