Automotive Paint Prep Technician (Prepper)

About the role

Aviva AutoCare Centre, a collision repair facility in Mississauga, is looking for a dedicated Automotive Paint Prep Technician (Prepper) to join its daily operations. The technician prepares repaired vehicles for refinish coatings, operates paint machines and tools, and uses paint mixes, primers and sealers according to automotive engineering specifications and painting standards. The role may include light body repairs and paint refinishing.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare repaired surfaces for primer, paint and finishing
• Clean, degrease and inspect surfaces, then sand, mask, feather edge and prepare panels
• Apply primers and sealers as directed by paint, shop or OE processes
• Pour paint into spray guns, adjust nozzles and paint mixes, and operate automated body paint systems
• Mask and protect unpainted areas of the vehicle
• Monitor painting operations to spot and correct flaws such as blisters and streaks, and help repairs flow smoothly through the workshop
• Assist in developing new paint processes and maintain clean, organized work areas
• Follow safety procedures, including proper use of PPE

Required profile

• 1-2 years of experience in the collision repair industry, preferably in the Paint department
• Knowledge of automotive refinishing and repair practices and procedures
• Attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures in a fast-paced environment
• Adaptability, commitment to continuous improvement, and ability to take direction under pressure
• Basic experience with sanding tools, masking materials and refinishing products preferred but not required; training provided
