Legal Officer III – Litigation

About the role

WorkSafeBC is seeking a Litigation Lawyer to join its legal team as a Legal Officer III. You will represent the organization in civil courts and tribunals across British Columbia, focusing on workers' compensation and occupational health and safety matters.

Key responsibilities

• Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents for civil litigation.
• Prepare for and appear at trials, hearings, and administrative or regulatory tribunals on behalf of WorkSafeBC.
• Provide counsel and advice related to the Workers Compensation Act and its regulations.
• Offer legal opinions on legislation, policy, evidentiary issues, and WorkSafeBC activities.
• Model organizational behaviours such as responsiveness, respect, fairness, collaboration, accountability, and forward‑thinking.

Required profile

• Law degree or equivalent qualification.
• Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
• Minimum five years of recent litigation experience in BC civil courts or tribunals.
• Ability to manage caseloads, present persuasive oral arguments, and conduct thorough legal research.
• Strong judgment and the capacity to analyze complex legal issues independently.
