Legal Adjudicative Officer – 18‑Month Temporary Role

About the role

WorkSafeBC’s Legal Services division is seeking a qualified lawyer to serve as a Legal Adjudicative Officer on an 18‑month fixed‑term contract. You will conduct written hearings of prohibited‑action complaints under the Workers Compensation Act, evaluating evidence and rendering decisions that protect workers’ rights.

Key responsibilities

• Draft clear, well‑reasoned written decisions on prohibited‑action complaints of varying complexity.
• Conduct a high volume of written hearings in a timely, procedurally‑fair manner.
• Analyze submissions and evidence from parties to determine outcomes and appropriate remedies.
• Provide internal legal advice on matters related to prohibited‑action complaints.
• Prepare and present training materials and tools for other WorkSafeBC staff.
• Model expected organizational behaviours such as responsiveness, fairness, collaboration, and accountability.

Required profile

• LLB degree and current good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
• Minimum three years recent experience practising administrative law, employment law, and/or human‑rights law.
• General knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health & Safety Regulation, and related policies.
• Decision‑making experience with an administrative tribunal is an asset.
