Legal Officer III – Litigation Lawyer

About the role

WorkSafeBC is seeking a Litigation Lawyer to join its legal team as a Legal Officer III. The successful candidate will represent the organization in civil courts and tribunals across British Columbia, handling workers’ compensation and occupational health and safety matters.

Key responsibilities

• Draft pleadings, motions, and other court documents for civil litigation.
• Prepare and conduct trials and hearings in BC courts and administrative tribunals.
• Represent WorkSafeBC before regulatory bodies and government agencies.
• Provide legal advice and counsel on the Workers Compensation Act and related regulations.
• Prepare reasoned written submissions and correspondence for stakeholders.
• Offer guidance on legislative, evidentiary, and policy issues.

Required profile

• Law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
• Minimum five years recent litigation experience in BC civil courts and tribunals.
• Strong oral and written advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage a demanding caseload and evolving priorities.
• Client‑focused approach and sound judgment.

Required skills

• Interpretation of the Workers Compensation Act and related regulations.
