Course Lecturer – Introductory Yiddish (JWST 281)

About the role

The Department of Jewish Studies at McGill University seeks a qualified instructor to teach Introductory Yiddish 1 (JWST 281) in the fall term of 2026. The course introduces students to basic Yiddish grammar, vocabulary, and cultural contexts through literature, humor, songs, and film.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver in‑person lectures and language practice sessions twice weekly.
• Prepare and grade assignments, exams, and language exercises.
• Curate course materials that integrate linguistic instruction with cultural exploration.
• Maintain office hours for student support and consultation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (MA) in Yiddish.
• Extensive experience teaching Yiddish at the university level.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work on the McGill campus in Quebec.
