Science Education Specialist – Faculty of Science

About the role

The Faculty of Science at UBC is looking for a Science Education Specialist to join Skylight, the Science Centre for Learning and Teaching. The specialist will support faculty and teaching assistants in first‑year science programs, champion inclusive and indigenized teaching, and help evaluate the impact of curricular innovations on student learning.

Key responsibilities

• Advise faculty and teaching assistants on evidence‑informed teaching practices, curriculum design, and assessment strategies.
• Develop and deliver professional‑development workshops coordinated by Skylight.
• Collaborate with Program Directors and instructional teams to design and evaluate educational initiatives.
• Lead efforts to integrate indigenization and inclusive approaches into science teaching.
• Monitor and report on the impact of pedagogical changes on student outcomes.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (e.g., Master's or PhD) in science education, curriculum studies, or a related field.
• Experience supporting teaching and learning in a higher‑education setting.
• Strong knowledge of inclusive, equity‑focused, and indigenized pedagogical practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with faculty, teaching assistants, and program leaders.
• Ability to work onsite at the UBC campus.
