Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2) in Neurosurgery

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term position is for a Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2) in the Department of Neurosurgery at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. You will join a team of ten FY2 doctors providing daytime and out‑of‑hours care for neurosurgical patients in an acute, multidisciplinary setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assess admissions and manage acute neurosurgical patients on the ward and HDU.
• Organise and collate test results, complete discharge summaries, and ensure safe patient handovers.
• Participate in on‑call and out‑of‑hours rotas, supporting senior staff and SPRs.
• Attend in‑house meetings for neurosurgery and neuroradiology.

Required profile

• Medical graduate with FY2 level experience, preferably with exposure to both medical and surgical receiving.
• Current GMC registration and a valid licence to practise in the UK.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and handle shift patterns that include nights, weekends and on‑call duties.

Required skills

• Competence in clinical assessment and acute patient management.
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for ordering tests and documenting care.
• Effective communication for multidisciplinary collaboration.
