Elementary Grade 5 Long-Term Occasional Teacher (77% FTE)

About the role

The York Region District School Board is seeking a qualified elementary teacher to fill a Long‑Term Occasional (LTO) position for a Grade 5 homeroom. This 77% full‑time equivalent role offers a rewarding classroom environment where you will support student learning and contribute to the school community.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess the Grade 5 curriculum in accordance with Ontario education standards.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students.
• Collaborate with fellow teachers, specialists, and administrators to support student success.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and assessment results.
• Participate in school meetings, professional development, and parent‑teacher conferences.

Required profile

• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or in the process of obtaining certification before the start date.
• Relevant teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.
• Ability to provide three professional references (external candidates) or two references including a YRDSB administrator (internal candidates).
• Successful completion of a satisfactory police record check.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Elementary Teacher Collective Agreement and related policies.
• Effective classroom management and instructional strategies.
• Proficiency in using standard educational technology and assessment tools.
