Education Interpreter – Visitor Programs (Temporary)

About the role

The Education Interpreter supports the Hamilton Children’s Museum by delivering engaging tours and educational programs for children and families. Working under the Curator, the role blends interpretation, program development, and visitor services in a dynamic museum environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide meaningful interpretation to visitors and conduct guided tours, ensuring schedules and group control are maintained.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate public and educational programs, special events, and digital activations for children aged 0‑12.
• Answer visitor inquiries, represent the museum at off‑site functions, and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to broaden audience reach.
• Handle cash register duties, sell tickets and merchandise, and keep accurate records.
• Set up and dismantle program materials and equipment, perform light cleaning, and maintain a safe environment.
• Follow health and safety legislation and City of Hamilton policies, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Previous experience in education interpretation, preferably in informal or non‑formal settings with children (ages 0‑12).
• Proven ability to develop and deliver public and educational programs or special events for youth.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
• Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and adapt to staggered hours as needed.
• Initiative, sound judgment, and capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook.
• Graphic design, photo editing, and video editing abilities.
• Social media management skills.
