Children's Program Mentor – After‑School (Part‑Time)

About the role

The Children's Program Mentor supports BGC Jane and Finch Club’s after‑school program for children ages 5‑10, creating a safe, inclusive and engaging environment while delivering recreation, sports, arts and academic support.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and delivering daily after‑school activities such as recreation, sports, literacy, homework support, creative arts, STEM and healthy‑living programs.
• Provide active supervision, maintain staff‑to‑child ratios, sign‑in/out children, and respond to emergencies, injuries or behavioral incidents.
• Prepare program spaces, handle snack preparation and distribution, maintain clean and organized environments, and manage attendance, documentation and inventory.
• Collaborate with site leads, coordinators, volunteers and fellow mentors, attend mandatory meetings and support PA‑day, school‑break and community events.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or graduated from Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Care, Social Service Work, Recreation & Leisure or related fields.
• Experience working with children aged 5‑10 in a structured setting and ability to lead sports, games, arts or educational activities.
• Strong communication, leadership and teamwork skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must possess or obtain Standard First Aid & CPR‑C, HIGH FIVE® Healthy Child Development, valid Food Handler certificate and a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
