Youth Summer Camp Mentor

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic and responsible Youth Summer Camp Mentors to support our BGC Jane and Finch summer camp programs for children ages 11‑18. Mentors will help create a fun, inclusive and safe environment where participants can learn, play and develop leadership skills.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and actively engage children in daily camp activities.
• Plan and lead recreational, educational and creative programming.
• Ensure the safety and well‑being of all participants at all times.
• Foster positive behavior and act as a role model.
• Assist with daily routines, transitions, meals and outdoor activities.
• Communicate effectively with staff, participants and families.
• Follow organizational policies, procedures and safety protocols.

Required profile

• Educational background applicable to the position.
• Experience working with children ages 6‑12.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience in camp, recreation or childcare settings (preferred).
• Meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility (age 15‑30, Canadian citizen or permanent resident, legal work entitlement).
• Strong communication, leadership and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Current First Aid and CPR certification (mandatory).
• Police Reference Check completed within the last six months (mandatory).
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development training (asset/required).
