Casual Educational Assistant – Support Students with Complex Needs

About the role

We are looking for casual Educational Assistants to join our caring team in Sudbury Catholic schools. Assistants work on‑site in classrooms, providing support to students with intensive or complex health, communication, adaptive or behavioural needs on a day‑to‑day basis.

Key responsibilities

• Support students individually or in small groups to promote independence and well‑being.
• Implement Individual Education Plans, Behaviour and Medical Safety Plans, and assist with assistive devices.
• Collaborate with teachers, families and specialists to address student strengths and needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Personal Health Information Protection Act.
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting, transferring, and positioning students as required.

Required profile

• College diploma or university degree in Child and Youth Care, Developmental Services, Educational Assistance or a related field.
• Knowledge of child and youth development, assistive devices and relevant legislation.
• Excellent communication, patience, problem‑solving and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work on‑site for extended periods and meet physical demands of the role.
• Successful Police Record Vulnerable Sector Check and completion of required health‑and‑safety training.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing software, Internet and email.
• Familiarity with Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) – certification preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certification – preferred.
