About the role
The Youth Addictions Counsellor provides counselling and support to individuals, families and communities affected by substance use and gambling. Working in both office and community settings, the role focuses on care planning, referrals, group facilitation and stigma‑reduction education.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver individual, family and group counselling for substance use and gambling issues.
- Develop care plans, make referrals and coordinate services.
- Facilitate educational and prevention activities to reduce stigma.
- Collaborate with schools, health providers, hospitals and community agencies.
- Provide crisis intervention, case management and support for co‑occurring mental health concerns.
- Work autonomously and as part of a rural team to serve the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant human services or health science field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Registration with a recognized college (e.g., OCSWSSW) is an asset.
- At least one year of experience with mental illness, developmental disability, or substance‑use populations.
- Experience in supportive counselling, case management or crisis intervention preferred.
- Strong empathy, cultural awareness (including Indigenous), and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a rural environment.
- Valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
