About the role
The Women Shelter Attendant provides direct support to shelter residents, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. The role involves compassion, patience, and collaboration with residents and staff.
Key responsibilities
- Assist residents with daily needs, personal safety, emotional support, and connect them to health and community resources.
- Respond to inquiries and crises, using de‑escalation techniques and maintaining a calm presence.
- Monitor shelter premises for security, conduct safety checks, and support emergency procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of the facility and keep accurate records of resident interactions and incidents.
Required profile
- Experience in social services, crisis intervention, or similar roles, preferably within a women’s shelter.
- Knowledge of domestic violence, homelessness, and women’s health issues.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check, and a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
Required skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Basic computer skills for documentation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Physical capability to perform cleaning and lifting tasks.
